Steam Basics
What steam is, why industry runs on it, and how to read its numbers — the ground every other lesson stands on.
- A1100°8 minWhy steam runs industryFour physical reasons a 300-year-old technology still carries most of the world's process heat — and where it genuinely doesn't fit.
- A2100°7 minPressure, temperature and the units India argues aboutGauge vs absolute, kg/cm² vs bar vs psi — the unit confusions that break steam calculations, settled once, with a converter.
- A3100°8 minWhat is steam?Evaporation, boiling and the saturation curve — why every pressure has exactly one boiling temperature, and why that runs your plant.
- A4100°9 minThe steam phase diagramWet, dry saturated and superheated steam on one picture — the bell curve and dryness fraction.
- A5100°10 minHow to read a steam tablehf, hfg, hg and vg — what each column means and how to pull the number you need.
- A6100°8 minLatent heat — the workhorseWhy the heat of condensation dwarfs everything else, and why condensate still carries a quarter of the energy.
- A7100°9 minSuperheated steam: friend and trapWhere superheat helps, where it quietly ruins heat transfer.
- A8100°8 minFlash steam explainedWhere flash steam comes from, how much forms, and why it is a resource, not a loss.
- A9100°10 minWet steam, air and clean steamDryness, air blanketing and the hygiene grades — what steam quality really means.
- A10100°9 minHow much steam does a process need?m·cp·ΔT, warm-up vs running load, and condensing rates — estimating demand honestly.
- A11100°8 minHeat transfer with steamU, A and ΔT — films, fouling, and what one percent of air does to a heat exchanger.
