Steam Traps
The implementation of Baelz 590 steam thermocompressor in place of traditional control valves as per end Customer has resulted in approximately 32% steam savings, elimination of steam traps, improved heat distribution & better drying quality.
The Jetomat® Turboheat® technology has proven to be an effective solution for enhancing energy efficiency and process performance.
The Challenge
Legacy valve-based steam equipment struggled to manage steam & condensate dynamics in drum & plate dryers. Inefficient nozzle design control & trap-dependent operation led to high steam usage, excess flash steam, & elevated boiler feed water & chemical consumption
The dryer groups were retrofitted with Jetomat® steam jet ejectors / thermo vapor recompressors (often called steam jet compressors, thermo compressors, or steam jet thermocompressors).
Each ejector uses a precisely engineered nozzle–diffuser (diffuser & nozzle) assembly—the core of the thermocompressor working principle/steam jet ejector working principle—to entrain lower-pressure vapor & recompress it.
By actively drawing out steam condensate & minimizing flash steam pockets, Jetomat® stabilized internal pressures, increased steam velocity, & thinned the condensate film—classic heat transfer solutions for dryer sections.
The retrofit simplified the system: fewer traps, optional steam separator points where needed, & integrated condensate & flash steam recovery system / flash steam recovery system elements as part of a broader heat recovery system.
The Solution
The Results
≈32% reduction in steam consumption in the dryer section (customer result).
≈80% lower feed-water & chemicals, thanks to reduced venting & better condensate handling.
Steam traps largely eliminated, lowering maintenance & improving reliability.
Behind these gains is the physics of a vapor compressor: high-pressure motive steam expands through a nozzle, entrains secondary vapor (including flash steam) from the dryers, & the mixed flow is recompressed in a diffuser. This raises useful pressure/temperature for reuse—an elegant, low-maintenance form of thermo-compressor energy recycling that upgrades waste vapor back into productive heating duty.
Why It Matters
For corrugators & paper producers, dryer sections dominate thermal load. Replacing throttling valves with Jetomat-type steam jet ejectors / steam thermocompressors delivers measurable energy savings, steadier temperatures, & simpler operation. Fewer failure points, better steam & condensate control, & integrated heat recovery translate directly into lower OPEX & a smaller environmental footprint.
Takeaway
If your dryer section still relies on conventional valve control & traps, a thermocompressor design using Jetomat offers a proven upgrade path: less steam in, more uniform drying out. It’s a practical modernization of steam equipment that aligns with both production targets & sustainability goals— turning previously wasted flash steam into reliable process heat.
